Director’s Cut of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ to Include Infamous Original Ending?

http://www.movies.com/movie-news/little-shop-directors-cut/8014?wssac=164&wssaffid=news
The team over at WSJ Speakeasy seem to know what they're doing. One NYC screening of Frank Oz's 1986 musical Little Shop of Horrors, a few well-placed phone calls, and voila: a little weekend news bite that should be great news to lots of movie nuts…

It looks like we're finally going to see that infamous "dark" ending that Frank Oz had to cut back in '86! Yes, this ending has been up on YouTube for a while, but there's a big difference between a sketchy clip and a full-bore digital reconstruction of this crazy end sequence. For those who wish to remain spoiler-free on this fantastic little relic, suffice to say that it's pretty apocalyptic, and for the others, well, go search the YouTubes. (The first run of WB's Little Shop (standard) dvd…

You Pick the Box Office Winner: Can ‘Battleship’ Sink ‘The Avengers’?

http://www.fandango.com/movieblog/?wssaffid=11841&wssac=123#715412

In case you haven’t noticed (and it’s pretty hard not to notice), The Avengers has been destroying box office records with each passing day. Not only did it just become the fastest film to $ 400 million (domestic) in only 14 days, but it’s also now Disney’s highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing Toy Story 3. It’s now the ninth highest-grossing film of all time, period, and it still has some climbing left to do. But does that mean it has enough chops to beat this summer’s next big blockbusters? Let’s take a look at what’s arriving in wide release this weekend …

Peter Berg Explains The Reference To ‘Battleship’s’ Famous Line

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/05/18/you-sunk-my-battleship/

Spoiler alert: No one says “you sunk my battleship” in “Battleship.” But director Peter Berg has a very good explanation for that. No one said it in the movie because the Regents didn’t sink the Navy’s battleships.

But before you get all up in arms about the omission, there is an homage to the famous admission of defeat from the Battleship pencil and paper game in the feature film. Fans just might miss it during their first go around.

“We have a version of it though. There was a reference to the line,” Berg promised in a recent interview with MTV News.

According to Berg, the reference is something along the lines of, “Ain’t gonna sink this battleship, no way.” When asked why he didn’t just say the classic line anyways, he said, “They don’t sink our battleship. Sorry.”

That’s not to say that there never was a version of the script where “you sunk my battleship” was said. It just didn’t end up working in the final cut of the film.

“We played around. I mean, we’ve said the line, we didn’t say the line, and then I sort of had this idea that maybe we should come up with a different way of respecting the line but, you know what, they didn’t sink the battleship,” Berg said. “There are a lot of ways you could have done it. We chose our way.”

‘Battleship’ And The Worst Toy Commercials Disguised As Movies (PHOTOS)

http://news.moviefone.com/2012/05/18/battleship-movie-toy-commercial_n_1528070.html

8 minutes ago ( 1:53 PM)

Seems like the author has problems with movies and their commercial applications or viceversa. I haven’t seen Battleship yet, but I have read the book. The only resemblance the movie has to the game is the title. Most of the other movies listed came before the effort to market toys and other goods. Fairly crappy stuff too that obviously did not do well in spite of the movie success.

THERE ARE WONDERFUL CONCEPTS OUT THERE WHICH FANS WILL NEVER SEE IN THEIR LIFETIME; REASON-WHY? ALL THE JUNK/CRAP MADE TO SELL MORE ICON DOLLS TOYS LICENSING GARBAGE (ALL THIS DOES,IS TO FILL UP THE GARBAGE DUMPS EVENTUALLY) HAS DESTROYED ANIMATION AND PLACED IT INTO A HUGE PILE OF STEAMING,MIND NUMBING, JUNK/COMMERCIAL CARTOON VENTURE,AND ‘SCREW THE FANS’….BIG corporations/ BIZ BOYZ ,JUST WANT THE MONEY!!
SADLY,KIDS PHYSICAl and mental health is now damaged, with clogged arteries and stolen college money, for ‘toys’ and video games,in the thousands of dollars, and we now have a fed-funded ‘loan’,which comes ‘due’ and forceably payable, via a lifetime debt of a hundred grand +all stolen by mind bending animation ceos who just want more money from kids and parents.
MY OWN ANIMATION CONCEPT WAS DENIED A GRANT FROM THE mC aUTHUR FOUNDATION,GIVEN TO AN ARTIST WHO USES RECYCLED GARBAGE FOR ‘SCULPTURES’ IN LOS ANGELES. FURTHERMORE, SOME OF THAT ‘GARBAGE’ CONTAINS OLD TOYS FROM DECADES OF JUNK ANIMATION/VIDEO GAMES……

A lot of the products listed were tie-ins for existing products. Such cross promotions, as far as movies are concerned, have been around since the silent film era. What is different about movies like Battleship, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, Clue, Super Mario Bros., G.I. Joe, etc. is that they are movies based upon a particular toy, game or ride, and not a product based on a movie (or TV show or comic book or book, for that matter) unlike Batman, Star Wars, Robocop, Godzilla, Jurassic Park, Rambo, Fantastic Four, The Hulk, Hook and Alien Vs. Predator. Of course what that means, as I pulled the above 10 non-qualifying titles listed from the article, is that the author of the article only listed five movies which matched his hypothesis. Oddly enough, he missed on Pirates of the Caribbean, G.I. Joe, and Clue.

The thing is, I grew up on the “Battleship” game. Me and my father played it constantly.

A truly great game.

It’s not about toys, but when talking about movies as commercials you can’t do much worse than the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It was literally financed by Quaker Oats as a marketing vehicle to introduce their Wonka line of chocolate bars (before they sold it to Nestle).

Maybe so, but it was a cool movie!

Once they saw the kind of money Lucas pulled down with the Star Wars franchise back in 1977 it was all over. The studio giving him franchising rights in place of an additional percentage was the biggest mistake they ever made, a mistake that no movie or tv production will ever make again to the point that there are many toys produced from shows meant for collectors and not even for kids. I used to work in the toy market, (after market, auctions etc), half the time they don’t even expect the consumer to ever open the packages anymore…

The “Cars” movies were the worst Pixar films? I’m thinking that honor belongs to “Ratatouille”.

I think the 80s Transformers were MUCH cooler toys than today’s version.

Fantastic Four was an OK movie. If you want to go down the “pointless” road, you could say that MOST movies are “pointless”.

I loved the Cars movie! And I’m glad someone agrees, I thought Ratatouille was awful. My kids love that movie and even still whenever they want to watch it I cringe. I won’t let them miss out on it but, blah! Good thing they like Cars and Cars 2 more!

The continuing of the dumbing down of America. We’re going to all be so stupid that we’ll be even easier to control through special effects and mind manipulation.

GIJoe was unwatchable! Comparing the Ninja Turtles 1 and 2 with that is blasphemous! The 3rd TMNT however, when they went back in time to fight Japanese samurai warriors—that’s fair game.

You can switch out “Masters of the Universe” with “GI Joe” or “TMNT” and its pretty much the same result. He-Man is especially stupid, however.

Most of these are pretty terrible, ‘Hook’, however was actually a pretty cool movie as a kid, and I don’t remember any toy or video game tie ins.
